Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says work on a new Walmart at Interstate 80 and College Drive should get underway next month.

The plans for the new store call for a 190,000 square foot facility, slightly smaller than the 220,000 square foot size of the existing Cheyenne Walmart on Dell Range Blvd. The new store will also be the second large retail outlet in the city to follow Cheyenne's "big box" design standards that were adopted in 2006.

The Cheyenne Menard's store also follows these standards, which mandate certain details and landscaping designed to minimize the scale of the building and it's appearance. The total value of the project could be upwards of $16 million, according to City Planning Director Matt Ashby.

That figure includes infrastructure such as a new traffic signal at Livingston and Campstool Road.

The new store is expected to open in the fall of 2015.
