Do you know any Dead Heads?

Ask them how many shows they've been to, you might be surprised. The Grateful Dead will be featured as tonight's KING Concert Cut around 7:50.

On January 7, 1979, the Grateful Dead played their first show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They rocked that venue many times after that and lots of other concert halls and arenas across the country and around the world.

Tonight's KING Concert Cut will be 'Casey Jones' recorded during the band's tour of Europe in 1972.

My first Grateful Dead concert was at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 1982 and over the next two decades I'd see the band 36 more times, and with all of the band members solo projects added in, (Jerry Garcia Band, Ratdog and Bobby & The Midnights), I've seen more than 50 of their shows.

One of the highlights of seeing Grateful Dead concerts is having the audience to watch along with the band, also no two shows are ever the same. I'd go to three nights in a row and never hear the same song played twice. The Dead also helped turn me on to many other artists along the way with all their cover tunes including:

  • Bob Dylan-'All Along The Watchtower,' 'When I Paint My Masterpiece,' 'Tom Thumb Blues,' 'Queen Jane Approximately,' 'Maggie's Farm' and many more.
  • Bobby 'Blue' Bland-'Turn On Your Lovelight'
  • Koko Taylor-'Wang Dang Doodle'
  • The Band-'The Weight'
  • Johnny Cash-'Big River'
  • Merle Haggard- 'Mama Tried'

The Grateful Dead celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2015 and are planning to reunite for a tour. What's the most times you've ever seen the same band?
