Laramie County's top election official says she is expecting a strong turnout for Tuesday's Wyoming primary election.

County Clerk Debra Lee says about 4800 people have either requested absentee ballots or have already voted, which she says is about 15 percent of the total number of eligible voters in the county.

She says that is a little higher than the last few years, with absentee voting continuing through Monday.

Lee says she's also noted a trend of people voting absentee who said they hadn't voted in a decade or more.

She says a 48 year-old and a 68-year old resident, both of whom said they had never voted in their life, were also among the absentee voters in addition to a fair number of young people voting for the first time.

Lee also says she thinks some of the hotly contested local races, including primary contests for Mayor of Cheyenne, Cheyenne City Council and Laramie County Commission, will help draw a large turnout on Tuesday.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and voters can register at the polls.

Lee is also reminding people who have asked for ballots that they must vote by 7 p.m. Tuesday to have their voted counted.
