David Trujillo has been a fan of bike racing most of his life. An accident about 10 years ago nearly took it away, but now he’s found a way to keep competing.

The Laramie resident has adapted to a new style of racing called Para Snow BikeCross, and he will compete in this event at Winter X Games later this month in Aspen, CO.

Highlighted in a recent article by ESPNMediaZone.com, Para Snow BikeCross is one of three new disciplines that will be part of the Winter X Games Jan. 24-27.

Trujillo broke his back in a dirt bike race in 2009. He was paralyzed from the waist down, but never lost his passion for riding. He adapted his dirt bike to continue to compete and has done it again to compete on the snow. After hearing about an opportunity at the Winter X Games in November, Trujillo’s been busy trying to get ready, get sponsors, and try to get an invitation. That came Wednesday, and now he’ll race later this month.

In the video above, Trujillo talks about his background with dirt bike racing, overcoming his injury, his desire to compete, planning for Winter X Games, and thanking sponsors and supporters for their help.

Trujillo said that he and his adapted bike will be on display Friday, Jan. 11, plus next Thursday and Friday, Jan. 17 and 18 at TNT Motorsports, 2061 Snowy Range Road if anyone would like to see it and visit with him. TNT Motorsports is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Trujillo will be at TNT from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. all three days.
