Have you ever been to LCCC's Literary Connection event?

Over the past decade, the Laramie County Community College Foundation has been bringing together readers with nationally known authors for free writer's workshops. Their next event is Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3.The 11th Annual Literary Connection comes to Laramie County Community College on Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, bringing nationally recognized authors Allen Kurzweil and George Bilgere to Cheyenne.

The authors will lead a free writer's workshop starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 2, in the Union Pacific Centennial Room at LCCC. Required registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be provided. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 2015 Literary Connection continues on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at LCCC. Authors Allen Kurzweil and George Bilgere will share stories, give writer's advice and sign books in the Union Pacific Centennial Room. The cost for Saturday's event, including a catered lunch, is $30, LCCC students and faculty get in for $5.

Allen Kurzweil recently finished his memoir about attending a French boarding school and getting bullied. 'Whipping Boy: My Forty-Year Search for My Twelve-Year Old Bully' tells about his search for the boy who bullied him, whom he found was a convicted felon.

Kurzweil's first novel 'A Case of Curiosities' came out in 1992, followed by 'The Grand Complication' in 2001. He's also written a series of children's novels featuring the character Leon Zeisel:

  • 'Leon and the Splitting Image' (2003)
  • 'Leon and the Champion Chip' (2005)

He also wrote a science book called 'Potato Chip Science' that includes 29 experiments and comes in a potato chip bag, it came out in 2010.

George Bilgere has been a frequent guest on 'A Prairie Home Companion' reading his poems. He has won numerous literary awards since his works were first published in 1994. Bilgere's works include:

  • 'The Going' (1994)
  • 'Big Bang' (1999)
  • 'The Good Kiss' (2002)
  • 'Haywire' (2006)
  • 'The White Museum' (2010)
  • 'Imperial' (2014)
