Laramie County School District #2 students won't be subjected to drug testing when classes start this fall.

After spirited discussion Wednesday night, the school board voted down a mandatory drug testing policy which would have required junior high and high school students involved in extracurricular activities to take random drugs tests.

Superintendent Jon Abrams says many parents and community members were concerned the policy was an invasion of privacy.

"For some they say they're giving up something and you know what there's some truth to that," said Abrams.  "When you give up the ability to be tested, some would say I don't want to give up that freedom."

There has been talk about Laramie County School District #1 implementing a similar policy, but the district has yet to make drug testing mandatory for students.
