Laramie County School District#1 hope to break ground on construction of the new Prairie Wind Elementary School north of Cheyenne in March, according to Assistant LCSD#1 Superintendent Dave Bartlett.

He says it will probably take 12-14 months to complete construction of the school, with the district hoping to open the school for classes by the fall of 2015.  The new school has been planned by the district for several years but been delayed by controversy over where it should be located. Bartlett says because the final site chosen is located on state land additional hurdles had to be cleared.

The new school, which will have a capacity of 506 students, is part of an ongoing district effort to deal with student overcrowding caused by increasing enrollment.
