Laramie County School District#1 Director of Instruction Dr. Marc LaHiff says the school district is taking steps to shore up 7th and 8th grade math education.

LaHiff says junior high math scores in district schools in recent years "really haven't been very good".

One step the district has taken is to increase junior high math classes from every other day to every school day. Beyond that, LaHiff says district officials have taken a look at how the math courses coordinate between grade levels to make sure they follow a logical progression in terms of student learning.

He says the district is also looking at other ways to make sure junior high students "don't become math casualties".
