Laramie County School District #1 will start recognizing a ''Student of the Week" this week, according to a release from the district.

LCSD#1 spokeswoman Mary Quast says the program, in partnership with secondary schools in the district, will reward district students for being good citizens, mentors, community involvement, academics, and attendance, among other things.

While students who are selected for the recognition may be involved in sports and other school activities, Quast says that will not be the main criteria for the award. The first ''Student of the Week" will be nominated by South High School this week.

Quast says the program will continue through the rest of the school year.
