The Wyoming statewide program through The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, DADS Making a Difference is a program that gives job training and other services to fathers who need help supporting their children. DADS Making A Difference helps men improve themselves as family leaders and to become in demand employees.

Recently, 10 Wyomingites made the cut and made the commitment to training and giving back to the community. In this case, they would build for Habitat For Humanity, where they would transform their new knowledge to the construction of storage sheds. This would build some of the skills from site preparation and foundation to framing, flooring, windows, siding, roofing, shingling and proficiency needed to build actual houses.

The current class has dads from Casper and Cheyenne and they are currently gathered in the Capitol City. Finding a construction location sheltered from Wyoming winter weather was a tough challenge for this state program with squeaky tight budgets, i.e. no money. That’s when Marian Orr stepped in with the perfect location. Orr, just two weeks into her new role as Cheyenne’s first female Mayor, showed her commitment to making a great community and her ability to quickly find a solution that would change many lives for the better. That's good news.

And then there was a need for materials, because once again, zero budget. After months of trying, the DADS had nothing to build with. Their commitment to the program precluded the dads from getting jobs in order to focus on training and long term goals and gains. Families were stressed, schedules were ready to collide and everything would have come to a screeching halt if it hadn’t been for one man and his wife, Brook.

Nick & Brook Dodgson secured 5 sheds to ensure the success of the dads and the program. No surprise for those that know “Nick The Midas Guy” through his Midas and Midas Speedy franchises or his radio show. Nick has been involved in making a better Cheyenne for years with tireless efforts and many, many charitable ventures, the most recent of which was with “Wheels 4 Charity” where his crew restored and customized a Jeep that netted over $63,000 for three Wyoming charities. Suffice it to say their contributions are legion. Now with their support of DADS, Wyoming is getting better again.

Thank you so much Mayor Orr. There are a number of people Teri Landreth (my wife) was able to tap for help from Townsquare talk show host Gary Freeman, Councilman Richard Johnson, Wyoming broadcast talent Brenda Foley, Element Church, Capitol Lumber, Wyoming Contractors Association of Casper and others. And further thanks to Nick Dodgson for giving his valuable time during crucial meetings covering his new Kawasaki dealership, Cheyenne Sports Center. Selfless guy, that Nick. This all stands as testament to the quality and caliber of people in our communities quietly working to make our state better. I mention their names and businesses in the hopes that when you need services and products, support those who support our community.

By the way, DADS still needs 5 more sheds if anyone wants to help. Hint, hint…. Contact Teri.
