Wyoming congresswoman Cynthia Lummis says she won't be seeking re-election in 2016.

The four-term Republican was first elected as Wyoming's lone representative in the U.S. House in 2008 succeeding Barbara Cubin and has easily won re-election to three terms since then.

Prior to her time in congress Rep. Lummis had served 14 years in the Wyoming legislature and eight as state treasurer. Her husband, Al Weiderspahn, also a former state legislator, died last year at the age of 65.

Lummis is currently a member of the house Natural Resources, Oversight and Government Reform committees. The 61 year old Lummis is a Cheyenne native.

She made her announcement Thursday at a news conference at the State Capitol in Cheyenne,
