Are you ready to celebrate Mardi Gras?

You might need a mask to fit in at this year's Mardi Gras festivities. At the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens' Children's Village they'll help you make a mask on Tuesday, February 17. On Fat Tuesday, stop by the Paul Smith Children's Village in Lions Park at 4 p.m. to explore the history and cultural traditions of Mardi Gras while making your own mask. The activity is available to children of all ages and the cost is $1.

During the Mardi Gras celebrations, Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday occurs just before Ash Wednesday and allows revelers a chance to enjoy and indulge a little before having to give up things for Lent.

Also this week at the Children's Village, learn about the Lunar New Year, Chinese Zodiac and the Year of the Sheep through story, art and play on Thursday, February 19, at 4 p.m. The cost of this event is also just $1 per person.

For more information on Tuesday's event or other activities, call 637-6349. The Director of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, Shane Smith, joins Gary Freeman on AM 650 KGAB on the fourth Wednesday of each month to talk about gardening, events and answer your questions.
