A 28 year old man who lists several different Cheyenne and state addresses as his residence has been arrest for assault and impersonating a sheriff's deputy, according to Laramie County Sheriff's Department spokesman Gerry Luce.

The suspect, identified as Jeremy David Stewart, allegedly got into an altercation with a man at the Cheyenne Wal-Mart on February 2. In that confrontation Stewart is accused of representing himself as a deputy and presenting a generic Sheriff's Department business card. He allegedly got into a second fight in the Wal-Mart parking lot with a different man. In that incident investigators say he again flashed the business card and represented himself as a deputy.

Luce says on Sunday, February 3, an off duty law enforcement officer saw Stewart at the Cheyenne Hills Church. wearing an empty holster and again claiming to be a deputy. Luce says the department has also received several calls from people in the community saying Stewart was representing himself as a deputy sheriff.

Stewart was arrested late Tuesday and is being charged with two counts of impersonating a Police Officer as well as an assault charge. The Sheriff's Department is asking anyone who may have information on the case or had contact with Stewart while he was claiming to be a Deputy to contact them.
