Cheyenne Police have arrested a 24 year-old Alabama man in connection with a larceny that occurred late Monday night.

Cheyenne Police were called to the Wal-Mart (2032 Dell Range) on Tuesday morning at around 8:50 A.M regarding the prior suspected theft of jewelry valued in excess of $1,000. A Wal-Mart employee said that a male suspect had entered the store the previous night at about 10:30 P.M. and departed shortly after midnight.

The employee reported that sometime between 11:00 pm and midnight the suspect bypassed the lock on two jewelry cases and removed approximately 50 jewelry items valued at $2,686.

The man left the store without making payment and was still at large. During the subsequent investigation, Cheyenne Police identified the larceny suspect as Christopher L. Smith of Scottsboro, Alabama. Police located Smith in the 5400 Blk of Walker Rd early Wednesday morning as he prepared to board a bus leaving town.

Smith was taken into custody without incident; he was booked into the jail on Felony Larceny and Possession of Marijuana charges. The case remains under investigation by Cheyenne Police.
