One of the original and last of the "Marlboro Men" died in Wyoming this week.

Darrell Winfield died at his home in Riverton, Wyo on Monday, Jan. 12. The 85-year-old from Oklahoma moved to Wyoming in the 1960's. He was discovered working on the Quarter Circle 5 Ranch in western Wyoming by the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency.

The "Marlboro Man" campaign portrayed as rugged cowboys were used in magazine and television advertisements from the 1950s through the 90’s to appeal to men. The cigarettes had previously been marketed to women.

In the past few years, at least four former Marlboro men have died after battles with lung cancer. Darrell’s cause of death has not been released yet.
