Mayor Kaysen Has Questions About 6th Penny Bill

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen (Amy Richards/TSM)

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says a proposed bill that would allow voters to extend the sixth penny tax past the time when approved projects are paid for, could provide needed funding for local governments, but he still wants more information on the proposal. The bill sponsored by Cheyenne Rep. Dan Zwonitzer would allow local municipalities to use the extra money from the tax for road projects until a new round of projects is approved by the voters. Kaysen says the last sixth penny sales tax brought in on average about 1.4 million dollars a month and the projects were paid off in March of 2012. The tax went uncollected for the remainder of the year.
