Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says he's been getting a lot of comments lately from people who want the city to move ahead with bicycle paths.

The mayor says he's been getting numerous messages of support for bike paths via telephone calls, e-mails and face to face comments, adding "there is a lot of passion" to see the paths implemented in Cheyenne. He says the general theme seems to be "bicycles are a new mode of transportation in Cheyenne, let's move forward with this".

Meanwhile Kaysen says he has been meeting with city staffers to re-work a plan for bike lanes in the Carey-Pioneer Avenue area after some residents complained about losing on-street parking because of the lanes.

The mayor says it looks like the revised plan will still cause some loss of parking, but not as much as the original proposal would have. Kaysen says he still expects that project to move forward, albeit with the changes.

The mayor says in general he wants to balance the needs of bicyclists and others in the city for plans that will benefit everyone
