Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says he is confident the city can come up with $450,000 for a sky path in downtown Cheyenne.

The skypath would link the Hynds Building with the Jack R. Spiker parking garage. The  $450,000 figure is predicated on state approval of a request  for $2 million to help pay the cost of the project.

A business owner interested in locating in the Hynds Building has said the project will not happen unless parking issues can be resolved, and city officials see the sky path as the easiest solution to parking problems.

Kaysen said Thursday the city can come up with the $450,000 out of reserves because "we have been very diligent over the last 8 years in building our reserves."

The full city council would have to sign off on the expenditure.

The mayor also says the city would own the skypath once it is built, and could eventually get back some of it's investment by charging the businesses which use the walkway.
