Mayor Says Revenues Show Strong Cheyenne Economy

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says the latest numbers on city revenues show the local economy is doing very well these days.

He says city revenues for the fiscal year, which began on July 1 are $1.7 million ahead of forecast, with $1.4 million of the surplus coming from sales and use taxes. Kaysen says that's good news for the local economy since those taxes are mostly collected on business transactions and construction permits.

The fact they are so much higher than forecast shows there are more of those transactions taking place in the city than expected. That in turn reflects an economy that is out performing expectations, according to Kaysen.

The mayor also said recently that he expects up to 300 new jobs to be created in the local economy over the next few months.

That includes Magpul Industries, which is planning to open their Cheyenne manufacturing facility by early next year. That project alone is expected to create around 200-250 jobs locally.
