Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says a door to door soliciting permit for Vivint Security was not renewed because of widespread reports the company's door to door salespeople were violating a city ordinance regulating such sales.

The ordinance was passed by the Cheyenne City Council earlier this year and went into effect May 1. Among other things it requires people selling door to door in Cheyenne to display a license photo ID badge issued by the city and to restrict sales calls to between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m..

Rude or overly aggressive sales tactics are also banned, as are such things as lying about a product and blocking people from leaving there homes.

The ordinance also orders salespeople to respect "no soliciting" signs posted on homes. Kaysen says city officials had received widespread complaints about Vivint salespeople not displaying the ID badges, making sales calls outside of the allowed hours and ignoring '' no soliciting" signs.

Many Cheyenne residents also say the salespeople for the company were overly aggressive and refused to leave when asked to do so by residents.

Kaysen says the tactics reported to city officials were exactly the kind of behavior the city has gotten complaints about for years in terms of door to door salespeople, and that the new ordinance was trying to address.

The company's door to door soliciting permit will expire on midnight on June 30 (Tuesday), and Kaysen says company officials have notified the city that they are pulling their door to door salespeople out of Cheyenne.
