The Wyoming Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball teams will have an opportunity in the future to play in some notable early-season tournaments.

The Mountain West Conference and Basketball Travelers Inc. (BTI) announced a strategic partnership, where members of the league will participate in BTI tournaments on a regular basis.

MW men’s teams will be part of the regular rotation in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam tournament starting in 2019 and the Great Alaska Shootout beginning in 2018. Both events are held each November. The Paradise Jam is entering its 18th year, while the Great Alaska Shootout is going into its 38th year.

In a release from the conference office, MW Senior Associate Commissioner Dan Butterly said,

“It is important for Mountain West basketball programs to play tough competition in great exempt events while providing each team national exposure. Partnering with BTI allows us guaranteed entry into quality, and historically known tournaments, with great competition, and guarantees our teams positions for future events we might develop together”.

In addition, MW men’s and women’s squads will be guaranteed participation in future events under development by BTI.

The Cowboys will be in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic next season and the Cayman Islands Classic in the 2017-18 season.
