The Cheyenne Police Department has a new tool in its arsenal.

Thanks to a public safety grant, the department was able to purchase a $140,000 mobile observation platform, giving police an eye in the sky.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says the M.O.P. has multiple cameras, including a 360 degree camera, a pan and zoom camera and a thermal camera.

The unit also features gunshot recognition technology, enabling police to pinpoint where a gun was fired and record real-time video of the incident.

Malatesta says the public can expect to see the M.O.P. at critical incidents and major events such as Superday and Cheyenne Frontier Days.
