The El Yunque National Rain Forest in Puerto Rico is the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System.

El Yunque was established in January of 1903 and covers 28,000 acres.

Included in El Yunque's diverse ecosystem are the Coqui Tree Frog and the highly endangered Puerto Rican Parrot. It's recovery began with the few birds left in the El Yunque Rain Forest.
