Children's Museum of Cheyenne Board President Amy Surdam says the board will be putting out a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for museum designers and architects on Monday, December 22.

The RFQ is the first step in awarding contracts for the design of the museum. Surdam says at least 4 independent architects and about a dozen museum design companies have already expressed an interest in the project, and will be contacted first.

The move follows a recent vote by the Cheyenne City Council to sell the roughly 22 square feet of city owned property in "the hole" to the museum group.

The museum already owned the roughly 3/4 of the property, which has sat vacant since a fire destroyed a bake shop located there a decade ago.

City officials have for years tried to find a business to locate in the vacant lot, which is widely considered an eyesore in the downtown area.

Museum officials have said they are hoping to open the facility by sometime in 2017.
