The O'Mahoney Federal Building in downtown Cheyenne is being considered for listing on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The National Register Review Board is slated to meet in Cheyenne Thursday, and will consider the O'Mahoney building as well as several other Wyoming structures for listing on the registry.

The building was constructed in 1965 and named for former U.S. Senator Joseph O'Mahoney. He represented Wyoming in the Senate from 1934-53 and again from 1954-61.

O'Mahoney was a Democrat who supported most of Franklin Roosevelt's ''New Deal' programs in the 1930's.

The building houses 18,000 square feet for the U..S. courts as well as a 40,000 square foot post office just up the street from the state Capitol building in downtown Cheyenne.
