A Townsquare Media of Cheyenne online survey conducted last week found drug abuse (especially meth and heroin) and revitalizing the downtown area to be the top concern of survey respondents.

The admittedly unscientific survey was answered by 575 readers at the Townsquare Media of Cheyenne websites. The final tally came out as follows:

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Cheyenne over the next few years?

-Drugs, especially meth and heroin 20 percent

-Downtown revitalization 20 percent

-The lack of a city rec center 14 percent

-crime 12 percent

-housing 11 percent

-blight/city appearance 7 percent

-the lack of air service to the city 6 percent

-potholes 5 percent

-education 5 percent

It's worth noting that while the lack of a city rec center was the third most common response in the survey, local voters have voted against sixth-penny sales tax funding for such a facility several times in recent years by significant margins.

Because the survey was open to anyone who chose to respond, it was not weighted to match the demographics of the local population or registered voters, as a scientific poll would have been.
