Opponents, Supporters Of Refugee Resettlement Air Views

Citizen's Protecting Wyoming,(CPW) a group which says it has concerns about Governor Matt Mead's letter to the federal government about refugee re-settlement held a rally Saturday on the steps of the state Capitol Building.

Meanwhile, a group that says refugees should be welcome in Wyoming, the Immigration Justice Coalition of  Laramie County, held a counter-rally across the street.

The emcee for the CPW event, Mike Elmore of Gillette, says Governor Matt Mead's letter to the federal government of September 13, sounds like a statement for bringing in refugees. But Elmore says he is ready to accept that either the governor or a staff member "may have just written a bad letter".

Elmore says he believes Mead would understand some of the unintended consequences of refugee re-settlement if given all of the facts.

But Sandi Gaulke of Cheyenne, a member of the 'Immigrant Justice Coalition of Laramie County says refugees are falsely suspected of being disease carriers by misinformed people.

She says actually those put through the resettlement  program are given a thorough medical examination and are closely screened to include only people who's lives are endangered in their homeland.
