Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills is selling items from the legendary guitar inventor's estate this weekend.

Today, June 9, marks the 97th anniversary of Lester Polsfuss' birth in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Les Paul, as he is better known as, is considered to be the father of the electric guitar.Les Paul is also credited with inventing many recording techniques and he commissioned the first 8-track tape recorder.

The technology he came up with is the core behind much of the multi-track recording still being used by musicians worldwide today.

Along with his wife, Mary Ford, Les Paul had a string of hits including 'How High The Moon' and 'Vaya Con Dios.'

Julien's Auction wraps up today, June 9, in southern California. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the Les Paul Foundation.
