'Ten,' the debut album from Pearl Jam, has reached sales of more than 10 million copies. Only 21 other albums have sold more copies since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan became the music industry standard for tracking point-of-sale purchases.

Billboard is reporting that the record sold 4,000 copies for the week ending Feb. 17, which pushed 'Ten' approximately 1,000 copies over the milestone. Three other albums passed the 10 million mark this year: Linkin Park's 'Hybrid Theory,' Usher's 'Confessions' and Adele's '21.'

Released in the summer of 1991, 'Ten,' along with Nirvana's 'Nevermind,' helped kick off the grunge movement of the early '90s and featured hits like 'Jeremy,' 'Alive' and 'Even Flow.' The success of both groups created, as it did with the Beatles-Rolling Stones and Sex Pistols-Clash before them, a "Which side are you on?" divide that made sense at the time but seems kind of silly in retrospect.

The biggest-selling album of the SoundScan era is Metallica's self-titled record, commonly known as 'The Black Album,' with 15.86 million copies sold. Coincidentally, 'Metallica' and 'Ten' were released two weeks apart in 1991, a few months after SoundScan went into effect.
