Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Dan Long is warning people about a phone scam in the area that features someone posing as a police officer demanding immediate payment for alleged fines.

Long says the caller will tell the intended that there is a warrant out for their arrest or that they have unpaid fines. In either case the phony cop demands immediate payment by a wire transfer, threatening the victim with arrest if the money isn't received.

Long says no legitimate police officer will ever demand for someone to send them money via a wire transfer to pay a fine. He also says people can find out about warrants and unpaid fines by contacting the local court system.
