Union Pacific Railroad wants professional photographers to abstain from taking photographs of sports teams, high school seniors, wedding parties and other subjects on or near train tracks or trestles.

Last year, more than 900 people were injured or killed while trespassing on railroad property in the U.S.

A case in point involves a recent Nebraska high school volleyball team thinking it would be great to have their team photo taken on railroad tracks that see more than 50 trains a day. Luckily, a railroad employee saw the team getting ready and he contacted the train dispatcher in time to avoid disaster. The crew of an approaching train applied the emergency brakes to avoid hitting the students and luckily, there were no injuries.

For as ridiculous as this sounds to me to have to warn people of the danger of trains, I personally witnessed a near accident earlier this summer when the Big Boy 4014 arrived in Cheyenne and an idiot almost got hit. See that video below.
