A bill that would give Wyoming hunters the option of wearing fluorescent pink rather than the traditional hunter orange as a safety measure has now passed the Wyoming Legislature and is headed to Governor Matt Mead.

The  Wyoming House approved Senate File 61 on third and final reading by a vote of 39-21.

The Senate had already approved the measure, which was sponsored by Laramie County Republican Senator Affie Ellis. Supporters of the measure said fluorescent pink is more visible to the human eye than orange.

Opponents said there is no real reason to add an additional color for hunters when the traditional orange has worked well for many years.

If Governor Mead signs the bill into law, it will take effect on July 1, 2018.
