A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says work on a new Public Safety Building is on schedule.

Laramie County voters in 2012 approved spending $25 million in sixth-penny sales tax revenues on the facility to house the Cheyenne Police Department as well as Cheyenne Fire and Rescue Administration and other emergency responders.

The Cheyenne City Council eventually chose the location of the former Dinneen's Car Dealership as the location for the building, in part because remnants of the existing building could be incorporated into the new structure.

Officer Dan Long says the last phase of demolition work on the site is wrapping up, and other work on the new structure is moving forward as scheduled.

He says police are hoping to relocating to the new building in late 2015 or early 2016.
