The Cheyenne Police Department would like to remind citizens that school will be back in session next week and that the police department will be focusing on traffic enforcement in school zones this month. Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Dan Long says as school starts again, expect to see a higher visibility of police and a continuation of strict enforcement in school zones.Long says All drivers should be aware of where the school zones are and remain alert for the flashing yellow lights and posted school zone signs. With shortened daylight hours, drivers should turn their vehicle lights on so they are more visible, especially during the sunrise and sunset periods. Long says During inclement weather visibility can decrease and slick roads will require longer stopping distances. These are factors every driver should be aware of, especially in high pedestrian areas such as school zones.Drivers are required to reduce their speed to 20 mph in a school zone and yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.
