'Back room deals' seems to be the phrase of the day, at least among some within the community. Concerning the old police HQ building, some are saying, "open bid."

We recently took an unscientific poll to get somewhat of a pulse to where the public stands on the decision some in the city made, to sell the old PD building to the Catholic Diocese, without a bid.

  • 50 percent of those polled said the building should go to an open bid
  • Over 38 percent of those polled said the city should have sold to the Catholic Diocese
  • Almost 6 percent would like to see a current, fair market value for the building

Others commented and stated they didn't want to see the church take it as we need 'more fun stuff' downtown.

We hope the best for our downtown area and for our churches and businesses. In the future, we would hope that our city leadership would be a little more open concerning public building.
