Poll Says Plurality Supports Increased Wyoming Taxes

A plurality of people answering a Townsquare Media of Cheyenne online poll conducted over the last week supported increasing taxes to pay for education programs in Wyoming.

The margin, however, was only nine votes and those supporting the increased taxes were less than half of those who responded to the poll.

The unscientific survey was conducted at Townsquare Media websites based in Cheyenne, Casper, and Laramie. Here are the poll results:

Do you support higher taxes in Wyoming to pay for education?
-Yes. we have to pay for quality education programs, even if that means higher taxes. 253 people, 46.34 percent

-No. The money simply isn't available, and there is waste that could be cut in education. 244 votes, 44.69 percent

-Other (unspecified) 32 votes, 5.86 percent

-I don't know 17 votes, 3.11 percent

A recent statewide poll of 500 state residents conducted for the Wyoming Education Association found 78 percent of state residents are willing to support higher taxes to pay for education.
