Pouring rains can cause a lot of damage in Cheyenne. But no rain has brought as much damage as it did in the Cheyenne flood of '85, when Cheyenne became a big lake.

Walls of water found their way crashing through the Capital City on August 3, 1985. With rain dropping at about six inches in less than four hours across Cheyenne.

People were trapped in their cars, basements were flooded all the way to the first floor of houses and out into the yards. The estimated damages to property were in the millions at that time.

When it was all said and done, 12 people died, to include one police officer and over 70 were injured in the Cheyenne flood. Not to mention fires, mud, moving trees and a lot of hail accumulated throughout Cheyenne.

With all the pouring rain we've been getting this weekend, it's not a bad time to be thankful and to never forget the neighbors and friends that were lost in the Cheyenne flood of 1985.
