Prosecutors Charge 16 Year Old With First Degree Murder in Cheyenne Shooting

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Witnesses say a 19-year-old Wyoming man with a gunshot wound to his stomach begged for his life before being shot in the head at point-blank range.

Laramie County prosecutors charged the 16-year-old with first-degree murder in the death of Tyler Burns.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the teen made an initial appearance in Circuit Court Wednesday. Judge Thomas Lee ordered him held on $250,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Oct. 15.

Prosecutors say a boy believed the defendant had vandalized his vehicle at a Cheyenne mall and the two agreed to meet at a city park to fight. Charging documents say the defendant brought a .40-caliber gun belonging to his mother's boyfriend and fired at a group of teens including the vehicle owner. One shot his Burns in the stomach.
