Public Safety Building Planning Moving Forward

A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says everything is on track so far for that agency to move into a new Public Safety Building by the end of 2015.

Lt. Mark Munari says the planning is coming towards the end of the schematic design process. The Cheyenne City Council Finance Committee on Monday approved a contract with local company FCI Construction as the  official construction overseer for the project. The contract still must be approved by the full city council, which is expected to consider the issue on Monday night.

Munari says the department is hoping pre-construction work--which includes such things as demolition work on the site--will get underway next spring. He says if all continues on schedule actual construction work should start  in August  of 2014. Laramie County voters in 2012 approved spending $25 million in sixth-penney sales tax money for the new building, which will house the police department as well as the Cheyenne Fire and Rescue Department administration and other emergency responders.

The site chosen for the building is the former Dineen's Car Dealership location in downtown Cheyenne.
