Did you feel like there was something missing from Cheyenne Day this morning?

It was way too quiet without the awakening roar of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds overhead. Their annual airshow was cancelled by government budget cuts earlier this year, this marks the first time since 1953 that the jets have been grounded during Cheyenne Frontier Days.Cheyenne was one of the original cities the aerial acrobats performed over in the early 1950's. Also missing today and earlier in the week were the autograph sessions usually held during the Free Pancake Breakfasts and those random T-bird sightings where you hear a loud jet and run out to check the skies for those extremely fast red, white and blue airplanes.

The good news is an announcement in the official Cheyenne Frontier Days program promising that the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be returning to perform in 2014.
