It’s that time of year when you realize you've got sick days that you haven’t used. Should you fake the flu to get a few days off?  If you do, remember:  Your coworkers are totally on to you.

A new survey found 57% of Americans have taken a fake sick day. Only 8% have gotten caught, and that could make you overconfident.

80% of people say they sometimes suspect their coworkers of lying to take fake sick days.  7% have actually hunted for evidence that the person was lying, usually on social media.

Here's why they get suspicious, according to The Daily Mail.  The survey found the top 10 red flags you're lying about being sick.  Listen and learn . . .

  1. It's a Friday or a Monday.
  2. You seemed fine the day before.
  3. You didn't sound sick on the phone.
  4. It's the day after a holiday.
  5. You always seem to be calling in sick.
  6. You had a weak excuse.
  7. The sick day coincides with an event or occasion you'd been talking about.
  8. You started preparing your coworkers the day before.
  9. When you come back to work, you talk about activities you did on your sick day.
  10. You lose track of the lie and start compounding it with more lies.

 

And here are the top five fake excuses people give to take sick days . . .

  1.  I just don't feel well.
  2. Stomach issues.
  3. A migraine.
  4. A sore throat.
  5. An "issue" with your house or apartment.
