Cheyenne's competitive Mexican restaurant game just got a new player. El Poblano opened at 1720 Capitol Avenue a few days ago, replacing the vacancy left by Mitchell's BBQ.

While Mexican food is a favorite for many, including yours truly, one has to wonder how many similar restaurants Cheyenne can sustain, especially with Los Abuelos just closing it's doors.

I entered El Poblano right at noon on a Thursday and was greeted immediately by a friendly face asking if I'd like to be seated or place a take out order. My to-go order was up in less than 10 minutes, which was impressive to me because of the large lunchtime crowd.

The staff at the counter were prompt and courteous, making sure I had everything necessary to enjoy my meal.

My enchilada plate with two chicken enchiladas, rice, and beans rang up at just over $9.00.

The meal was hearty, well seasoned, and very good. The red sauce is especially good. If you've been to Rolando's Mexican Grill, I'd say it's extremely comparable to their enchilada's.

I think the location is great to attract hungry downtown workers for lunch. I'm concerned about the breakfast and dinner crowd however, as there are many other Mexican options closer to residential neighborhoods.

Overall, I thought the staff and food were very good. The restaurant itself is very basic so far, which is quite the shock after seeing so much decor from the Mitchell's folks. There is also zero online presence with this place so far. I can't find a website or Facebook page.

I would definitely recommend hitting them up for a quick to-go lunch or even a business lunch. However if you're looking for a nice dinner spot, I still say you can't beat Guadalajara.
