Some classic rockers are coming to movie screens near you.

If you can't see a band in person, sometimes the next best thing is watching them captured on film. Movies featuring the Grateful Dead and Prince are hitting screens this week.

The Grateful Dead's sixth annual Meet-Up at the Movies event is Wednesday, May 11, starting at 7 p.m. at participating theaters. They'll be featuring a never-before-released concert from July 2, 1989 recorded at Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The show will also feature footage of Dead & Company plus an exclusive interview with David Lemieux. Theaters near Cheyenne that are participating include:

Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado kicks off their Film on the Rocks series this summer with 'Purple Rain' on Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m., gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the cost is $15. Other movies with rock on their soundtracks this season include:

  • 'Grease'-May 23 along with a performance by Lissie & Megan Burtt & the Cure for Love
  • 'The Big Lebowski'-May 30 with performances by Anthony Ruptak & the Midnight Friends plus The River Arkansas
  • 'Ferris Beuller's Day Off'-June 20 with performances by Strawberry Runners and The Baltic
  • 'Labyrinth' with 'School of Rock'-July 25 along with a Tribute to Bowie

Seeing your favorite rockers on film is a nice way to enjoy them after they're gone and it's usually cheaper than a concert ticket.
