A woman escaped a vehicle fire at the Rock Springs landfill without serious injury Monday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department.

Dick Blust says deputies and firefighters were called to the landfill around 2 p.m. on a report of a vehicle fire. The woman, who was not identified by authorities, told investigators that she had been driving her blue Ford four-door pickup at the landfill when she heard a loud ''pop."

She said she saw the pickup was on fire and fled the vehicle before contacting authorities. While she did not suffer any injuries, the pickup was totally destroyed.

Blust says the incident is still under investigation.
