Rodeo style at Cheyenne Frontier Days is all about individuality.

First, as far as rodeo contestants it is a PRCA/WPRA requirement that participants in rodeos must be dressed in western attire while competing.

Many rodeo spectators also dress in the traditional manner. You know a long sleeve shirt, jeans, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. I asked a lot of people about why they wear a long sleeve shirt, especially on a hot day. Most people said it was to block the sun, others said it was to block the bugs and dirt. One young man told me that was just the way he was brought up. He said on the ranch the men wore long sleeve shirts.

I found that most rodeo style though begins with two items, a cowboy hat and a pair of boots. Some women add shorts and a tank top, or a skirt or dress. Most people I talked too though said they dressed for comfort on a hot July day, even though they really liked the cowboy style.

So I guess what you wear to the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo is up to you, but make sure you have lots of sunscreen. Happy rodeo.
