We all had a good laugh while debating the color of #thedress, but the Salvation Army has found a way to use the controversy to make an important point.

The Southern African arm of the charitable organization has put out an anti-domestic violence ad featuring the dress.

In the ad, a woman, sporting bruises on her face and legs, wears the dress, which appears gold and white, with the text "Why is it so hard to see black and blue?" splashed above her.

The ad certainly sends a powerful message. A Southern African Salvation Army spokeswoman said, "TSA [the Salvation Army] in South Africa brings awareness to this problem, which is huge."
