Sammy Hagar fiercely defends former Van Halen / current Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony after Eddie Van Halen’s Billboard interview. Hagar got so pissed that Ed said he had to show Anthony how to play all his parts and that this is a big part of why he's no longer in the band, that Sammy had to call out Ed. Sammy was also set on correcting Eddie downplaying the role of Anthony's backing vocals in creating the group's signature sound.

The article sheds some light on Edward, with the fact he started smoking and drinking at the age of 12 and would show up a school drunk. After their concerts, Eddie would “go back to his hotel room to spend the night drinking vodka, snorting cocaine and noodling into a tape recorder.”

Eddie quit smoking but now vapes after losing 1/3 of his tongue to cancer. He thinks it may have been caused by holding metal guitar picks in his mouth.

Eddie would love to make another Van Halen album, but

“It’s hard, because there are four people in this band, and three of us like rock ’n roll. And one of us likes dance music,”

When people copied his ground breaking style, Ed says “ I did not take it as flattery.”

Personally, I respect Sammy Hagar's integrity and guts to set things right. I respect Eddie's talent but not the man. I always liked my few talks with Michael Anthony and I am impressed that he has always taken the high road in discussing Van Halen. They are a couple of articles worth reading if you are so inclined, but it may tarnish your opinion of the band.
