We, as parents, all want our children to succeed, but what are we doing to help them get there? There are many ways that we can help our children be the success that we wish for them to be, but it will take time and involvement on our part.

Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some ideas that may help you see what you need to do to take a part in your child's success. Feel free to add other ideas in the comments section below. We can all learn how to be better parents.

  1. Help Out In Your Child's Classroom - Teacher's like it when parents help them out. You can volunteer on field trips, the school library or where ever else they may need you. Plus, you get to be around your child some.
  2. Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences - Laramie County School District #1 has a list of dates and times where these conferences will be held. Engage with your child before going to these meetings so that you can bring up concerns to the parents and teachers at the conference.
  3. Meet Your Child's Teacher - As soon as school starts, get to know your teacher. Let her know that you want to know about developmental success and handicaps so that you can be involved in helping in those areas. Teacher's like it when their parents take a role in their child's education.
  4. Follow Up - Assignments, homework and special projects. You should know if your child has homework or not. The last thing you want is to find out the night before an assignment or special project is due. That is frustrating.
  5. Ask Questions - Educate yourself with all the website helps that are available first, but do not hesitate to ask questions. As you well know, the dumb questions are those not asked.
