See the World’s Biggest Crocodile

World's Largest Crocodile in Captivity

A monster crocodile who goes by the name Lolong has just earned a Guinness World Record for being the largest saltwater croc held in captivity. We wonder if that makes his handlers, who must have the most dangerous job in the world, feel any better.

The aptly-named Lolong lives in an ecotourism park on the outskirts of a farming town called Bunawan in the Philippines. He was captured last September after terrorizing the area for years, and may have been responsible for the disappearance of a local fisherman and the death of a little girl two years ago.

It took steel cable traps and approximately 100 people to wrangle the 20.24 foot animal. Since his capture, Lolong, who weighs more than a ton, has drawn record crowds of tourists hoping for a glimpse.

But villagers worry that other gigantic crocs may be lurking in the waters near the fishing village. “We’re really proud because it proves the rich biodiversity of our place but at the same time, there are fears that Lolong may not be alone,” said Bunawan mayor Edwin Cox Elorde.

Er, remind us to cancel our trip to the Philippines as soon as possible.
