If you believe it is better to give than to receive, consider helping to serve the less fortunate this Thanksgiving. Here are three organizations making Cheyenne a better place.

The Cheyenne-Kiwanis Community House in Lions Park will the hold the 34th annual free community Thanksgiving dinner from noon – 4 p.m. on November 24. Last year, they delivered more than 800 meals to those who could not make it in person, this year they will probably serve more. Delivery requests must be in by 8 p.m. November 23rd, according to The Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

If you would like to help on any level, contact The Unity Missionary Baptist Church and Reverend Fitzhugh at 307-634-5643. Personal experience says you will probably enjoy helping more than stuffing (pun intended) yourself. You also don’t have to work out for 2 months to get rid of those calories. It feels good to give and serve others.

The Salvation Army will be serving Thanksgiving dinners from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at 601 E. 20th St. They also will deliver to the elderly and home-bound. If you are in need, contact them at 634-2769 as soon as possible to help drivers map out their routes.

Glen Chavez was inspired to serve those serving in 2009, following the suicide of an airman at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. Glen is hosting his 7th annual Thanksgiving feast for veterans, active-duty military and their families. "The dinner was started to ease the loneliness of our troops stationed here," Chavez said. "We served 50 in the first year ... then 2,500 the second year and it's been like that ever since."

No RSVP required, so long as the party includes a veteran or current member of the U.S. military. Dinner will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Wyoming Army National Guard 115th Field Artillery Brigade Drill Hall, located at 5500 Bishop Blvd.

Chavez will also provide hand-decorated Christmas trees to veterans in this Festival of Hope

You gotta love the people who help to make lives better in Cheyenne. You can be one of them.
